It seems that in today’s fast paced world many of us don’t get the fiber we need. There are lots of reasons why you should eat more fiber….like 25 to 50 grams of it a day. It is heart healthy, and it helps to regulate your blood sugars. It also is good for weight maintenance. If you are on a low carbohydrate diet, you can subtract fiber grams from your total carbohydrate grams for the day. It’s that good! Unfortunately, many of us don’t even get 5 or 10 grams of fiber in a day. That’s a problem long-term, as lack of this important nutrient leads to poor health.
There are many fiber supplements on the market, and it may be a good idea to add this regimen to your daily habits. Eating more fiber can be easy, just incorporate more beans, nuts, vegetables, and whole grains into your diet. If you are on a low carbohydrate diet, nuts work really well, as do fiber supplements. Sprinkling a little flax seed in some cottage cheese or on your salad will do nicely.
