Why Fasting Isn’t Scary – Juice Fasting

Before you start fasting or any other detox regimen, be sure and discuss any health issues with your doctor.

Not eating really sounds scary to some.  In our culture, the 3 square meals are clearly ingrained in us from the time we are little kids.  Missing a meal seems like a deprivation to many.  But..it’s not as scary as you think.  In fact, our bodies were designed to get rid of toxins.  We just have to allow it to happen.

But..there are times when your body would love it if you stopped eating long enough for it to work on the healing process.  We have been polluting our bodies with so many toxins from the environment and processed food that it doesn’t function optimally, and the toxins stay trapped in our fat cells.

When we eat, our bodies are concerned mostly with the process of digestion instead of toxin elimination.  Being toxic can present itself in a lot of ways, like fatigue, degenerative diseases, arthritis, inflammation, hormone disruptions, and more.  Most of us have some toxin overload right now.

So, what’s a person to do?  You can cure a lot of things by simply letting your body ‘be’ for a few days without food, but with plenty of fresh juice and filtered water.  In a general fast, it takes about 3 days for your body to adjust to no food, and quit producing the digestive enzymes in your gut.  After that, a ‘cycle’ of cleansing and detoxification is around 4-7 days.  So, a standard fast is between 7-10 days if you are fighting fatigue and inflammation, etc.  If you are actually trying to heal something very systemically wrong, like cancer, many experts say you need 3 or 4 ‘cycles’ of cleansing and detoxification.

The body, as soon as it’s adjusted to no food, goes right to work flushing toxins out of the body.  They are released and eliminated.  At the end of your fast, you are left with clearer skin, brighter nail beds, and mental clarity.  Also, losing weight is easier when you are not totally toxic.  Fat exists for the sole purpose of keeping toxins out of our bloodstream.

While you are fasting, during the first 3 days take it easy.  After that, do all the things you would normally do to work on your body, such as massage, personal training, workouts, etc.  Producing sweat will help your body eliminate the toxins that much more readily.  Also, make sure you [ahem]…are not constipated.  That type of elimination is the body’s main toxin removal.

Green juice recipes:

Kale, celery, broccoli sprouts or parsley, the juice of one lemon, and ginger.

OR

Wheatgrass juice, kale, lemon, ginger

OR

Any other super green juice.  Be sure you use a juicer and not a blender, as you want the liquid parts of the veggies, not the fiber.  If you get the fiber, you body will start making digestive enzymes again and the first three days will start over.  In addition to the green juice, which you should do at least three times a day [maybe 12-20 oz of juice], drink lots of water, plain, or with fresh lemon slices or fresh cranberries.  Don’t eat the fruit, just let it steep in the water and drink.  Yummy!
