Sinus Problems

Many of us suffer from sinus headaches. When they recur frequently, they can be debilitating…or just downright annoying.

The most important thing to do for recurring headaches is to understand that our food and environmental sensitivities, which cause sinus headaches, all stem from our bodies’ own natural defenses, in our gut. Allergies are often the root cause of recurring sinus headaches. We each are sensitive to different things, but overall the presence or absence of our sensitivities lies in whether or not our intestines have become permeated [gross, huh?]. The main offender in this process is Candida Albicans…aka yeast infection in our gut. Candida, in its fungal form, puts down ‘roots’ in the intestinal wall, therefore permeating it and allowing rather large molecules to pass through the intestinal wall into our bloodstream. When this happens, it triggers an immune response that is followed by inflammation and antibody/antigen reactions.

So… the secret to cleaning up allergies and recurring sinus problems lies in our ability to clean up candida. Incidentally, candida overgrowth causes a host of other issues as well. Such as diabetes, arthritis and other degenerative types of diseases.

So…what can we do to kill Candida and therefore feel much better, by being pain free and also…incidentally..we will have more energy? First, supplements. Allicin, which is a component of garlic, has very strong anti fungal properties and should be taken daily. Also, probiotics should be given daily, as good bacteria needs to be in ample supply in the gut. When good bacteria is in short supply, candida is then allowed to grow out of control. This is akin to a flower garden..think of the good bacteria as the flowers and candida as weeds that need to be kept under control. One more thing that I have not tried yet but will is acidophilus milk. Acidophilus allows for a more acidic environment which will help kill candida.

Then, cut flour, sugar, and cheese from the diet. If you eat yogurt [which has probiotics-good] get plain yogurt so that the sugar in the yogurt doesn’t feed the yeast.

Now, if you currently have a sinus infection, rinse daily with a neti pot. If you add a couple of drops of grape seed oil to the neti pot, it has a bit of antibiotic effect. Make sure that you boil the water you are using with the neti pot, then allow it to cool to body temperature or cooler before pouring the water into the neti pot.  Boiling the water sanitizes it, you should never use water out of the tap in your neti pot.  In addition, make sure your neti pot is sanitized by running it through the dishwasher at least weekly.

Or..this is something I read but have not tried…get a simple nasal spray and add two drops of baby shampoo to the spray and use it three times a day until the infection is cleared up. The logic behind this is that bacteria creates the slimy biofilms to protect itself and promote growth, and the baby shampoo cuts through the slime.

Last but not least…I have a supply of these beauties in my cabinet all the time…ColdEEze. They are a zinc lozenge that you take every 3 hours until infection is cleared up. Zinc is a very potent antibiotic, and something your body needs to fight infection. You will notice a difference after the first dose.

Oh! And one more thing. Quercetin is the absolute best supplement to take daily to combat all inflammation. It’s not only good for your sinuses, but your heart and your joints as well. I take it every day, and so do my husband and kids.

Yours in Health,

Tracie
